Senator Kolker Supports & Reflects On Colorado's Family Tax Credits

Shared by @senatorchriskolker via Instagram on Jan. 1st, 2026

As I prepare for the 2026 session and the New Year, I’ve been reflecting on both our progress and the challenges ahead. Recent reporting from Nick Coltrain at the Denver Post highlighted the impact of Colorado’s expanded Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), an important tool that has returned thousands of dollars to low‑income families and strengthened economic mobility across our state.

I’m proud to have sponsored legislation that prioritizes affordability and invests directly in Colorado residents. But the passage of President Trump’s Big Bad Bill this year, combined with the long‑standing constraints of TABOR, puts tax programs like this at real risk. Our state’s structural limits force lawmakers to make painful cuts to essential services like healthcare and education, even when the need in our communities is growing.

Despite these challenges, my commitment remains the same: to fight for a budget that advances equity, protects vital services, and centers the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors. I have always prioritized these kitchen table issues of affordability for all, especially those in the most need.

Colorado deserves a fiscal system that allows us to meet the moment and I’ll continue working toward that goal in the year ahead.
